About the Author
Of Chinese descent from Malaysia, Ko Tan has had a passion and fascination for Traditional Chinese Medicine since his youth. As a teenager, he would run to the local Chinese herbal pharmacy and ask how to utilize different herbs and about their various purposes. After graduating with a Master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Nebraska, he went back to school, studying TCM at Samra University of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles for 2½ years. He then left the field of architecture to open his own practice. Since 1994 Ko Tan has been teaching TCM theory.

Solid TCM Information

We have a reflexologist who comes to our home every other week to work on my 89-year-old mother, my husband, and myself. Under his care and for the first time in years, my mother is off all pharmaceutical meds, and has perfect blood pressure and choloesterol levels. When I visited China last year, I went to a TCM and was amazed at the accuracy of his diagnosis (better than the naturopath and the primary care physician back home!) so I was mentally open and ready to learn more about TCM. Our reflexologist loaned us his copy of this book and, after reading it, I knew we had to have one of our own. Highly recommend this book for the information provided (although it's not always the easiest reading).

Scape Martinez is the author of best-selling Graff (IMPACT, '09) and has created murals and designs for countless public art projects. this is a softcover book, and was surprised to find it had been wrapped in a plastic bag, which was taped to secure it closed. it was boxed! with air bag padding, before they shipped it! usually the large soft covers are put into a plastic bag to ship, and so do suffer some damage, even if minor. this is a beautiful book, arriving in pristine condition, and is a perfect gift! thank you!

I have all four of Scape's books, this one is a great follow up to his first one! Very well done and all of his books have terrific illustrations. He is a highly talented artist and if you are interested in graffiti art, his books won't disappoint!

Excellently based on format!

I was initially quite worried about the selection of this book because many SAT books made from organisations other than College Board usually fail to pursue the format of the text. But this book exactly corresponds the format, style and type of questions and texts that are encountered in the actual exam. Really glad to prepare for the new SAT with this book and I recommend this to everyone who is really concerned with the accomplishing of the highest score.

Horrible proof reading, constant errors

Pros:
It describes everything very well and is simple to read. Definitely a good book to start out on if you have a small background in web design.

Cons:
This book has more errors in it than you can shake a stick at. Every chapter has coding errors of some sort in it. Lack of code in sections and lack of proper coding in others. I am lucky to understand what the problem was but on numerous occasions I would have to completely disregard what it was telling me to do, to get it to function/run properly. Definitely needs a thorough revision done.

Maybe rev 2/3 would make it 4 and possibly 5 stars... however in its current condition a horrible book for a beginner to try. Will cause frustration.

It sucks....

I purchased this book a few months ago for a class and was extremely aggravated and disappointed.

the book is all terminology and no glossary;which made it very difficult to do work in. The chapters are much longer then they should be (there are 568 pages for only 10 chapters)
it took forever for me to finish.

This book has some instruction about ASP .NET Programming with C# & SQL Server but I feel that it is a very poorly written text book for students to use even with class instruction. There are many typos in the book and erroneous code. They need to have more diagrams of the websites that they want the students to build in the student exercises and projects. They need to give more examples of the code that they use in the book and better back ground information about their code.

About the Author

Jancis Robinson's award-winning books Vines, Grapes and Wine (1986) and the hugely successful Oxford Companion to Wine (1994, 1999, 2006), are landmarks in wine literature. Jancis is the Financial Times' wine correspondent and is critically acclaimed as the "woman who makes the wine world gulp when she speaks" (USA Today) and "our favorite wine writer" (Playboy). Jancis was the first person outside the wine trade to qualify as a Master of Wine, in 1984. A beautifully produced, enjoyable and authoritative book

I agree with the chorus of praise for this book. It is beautifully produced and packed with information.

Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson are phenomenally knowledgeable, and they have used that to produce a world-class reference work which is also a pleasure to browse in. It has beautiful, detailed maps and interesting, readable text so that opening a page at random is very enjoyable just for a browse, but there is a lot of proper expertise here with an excellent index and in-depth articles on things like the factors which affect the quality of Bordeaux wines and so on. Each country gets a proper introductory overview and detailed (in some cases like Bordeaux, micro-detailed) analysis of regions, all backed up with excellent maps, pictures of labels and the like.

Truly, anything the non-professional would ever need to know about wine is here, and it's plainly used as a reference by professionals, too. It is, therefore, a very substantial volume at nearly 400 large-format pages, and the only slightly negative thing I have to say about it is that it is heavy enough to be a challenge to the wrists after a very short time - but then extensive reference books have to be weighty, and it's fine to read on a table or your lap. I'm delighted with this book and would warmly recommend it to anyone with an interest in wine at any level: it's crammed with authoritative information and a pleasure to read and to look at.

A not so brief tour of an enormous world of wine

When Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson team up on a book about wine you have high expectations. And they are mostly met here.

The introduction is just that, a quick overview of wine. I love their bluntness: the subtitle to their paragraph on chardonnay reads "Broad, versatile, inoffensive - unless over-oaked".

But this is an atlas, and about 300 pages are devoted to a whirlwind tour of wine around the world. While well done, the top level treatment leaves you realizing just how big the world of wine is today. They could have written ten times as many pages, and still not covered everything going on in wine today.

So take this as an overview. Nearly any region of interest has books--often many, many books--devoted to it. But most people can't spend all their time reading about wine, and this book provides a good overview for deciding where you want to focus on.

Hugh and Janice are the best. Anyone who wants to LEARN more about wine has to have this book.
