Sociogoly textbook

As far as textbooks go, this one is pretty good. The chapter divisions break the material down into manageable sections. Each chapter reinforces the ideas of the different sociological concepts studied, so that it's hard not to begin to pick up the concepts of each.
My only complaint is that the author seems to have the idea that all students using this textbook are going to be young people just out of high school. Many of his comments leave out non-traditional students. The median age of students at my college is 35. When the author does a revision of this textbook (And you know he will!) he should make sure he considers his audience closely.

Great Sociology Book

When I bought this book I was a Sociology major. Since then I have changed my major, but I will keep this book forever. Although we were assigned readings in class, I rarely did so, but when I did I was intrigued. This is a well written easy to follow book. I would definately recommend this book to anyone who is even slightly interested in Sociology or studying sociology. The author doesn't bury the reader with useless fluff or try to drown you in big technical wording. This book starts out by giving the background of sociology and a brief bio of the initial major contributors in the field. I haven't gotten rid of this book because when I decide to MAKE time to read, I will read this again. It's got my vote.

Hello Viewers, My name is Morgan and I read this book titled “Sociology- A brief Introduction” by Richard Schaefer for my sociology course during my first year of College. This text was required in a classroom of approximately 250 students. My major is business and I have never taken an interest in sociology until I read this book. The author combines information with a wide variety of examples and modern scenarios relatable to the reader. This book is broken down into chronological sections starting with the history of Sociology to how Sociology is relevant in behavior today. This text is a nice size and some readers may be intimidated by its physical appearance, however, this book uses appropriate terminology and very interesting graphics to make readers engaged in the topic all while giving them a realistic and sometimes overly graphic view of what is happening in society. Furthermore, Aside from being very graphic and informational, this text also combines Sociology with components of Psychology, this books focuses on groups as well as the individual behavior of different ethnicities, ages, races and cultures. I would highly recommend this book to any reader who is interested in Sociology or needs a required text for a Sociology course. This book is very well-structured and informational, it makes even the least interested individual excited about what a pivotal role sociology plays in behavior. This book will also be a good reference for new and experienced mothers; as it breaks down the phases of childhood to adulthood behavior. The credentials of this text include several Sociologist such as Karl Marx, Max Weber and W.E.B DuBois, with examples, quotes and theories of each. This books provides you with unbiased information leaving the reader to determine what beliefs are most conducive to their way of life. This book is also a good reference for cultural differences including but not limited to, the history of cultural dieting, marriage, including polygamy, monogamy, as well as the historical views on cultural exclusion, social stigmas and genocide. In conclusion I must say that this book is phenomenal, it is the only text book in College that I can remember 80% of the information and actually enjoyed reading. I received an “A” in the class and with it being taught by a foreign professor with a language barrier I must say this book came in handy with supporting and elaborating on everything she taught. Don’t be hesitant to rent or even consider purchasing this book, believe that is it worth your money! This book will change your perspective on culture, religion, social groups and even yourself. Better than I Expected

This reference guide was better than I expected. Their is detailed information about every GLOCK model, including the ones that aren't available in the U.S. and why. Sadly, the book went to print before the author could test the new G43, but their is a free PDF of an additional chapter covering the G43 available on the publisher's web site. The link is at the end of the book, and with the free PDF, this really is the complete guide to every GLOCK model ever produced. It even covers GLOCK's accessories (knives, entrenching tool, lights, holsters, etc.), maintenance, GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF), armorer's course, and suppressors.

If you want to know everything there is about your GLOCK, and the GLOCKs you don't have yet, this is the perfect guide for you.

This is a 2014 published book, all of the "newer"Glock information is in this book. It is a complete book on the Glocks, all of the generation's of Glocks, the parts, the years introduced, parts difference between the generation's, this is the best source of information about Glocks from the start until now. It's a great book, reference manual, parts catalog.

Best Glock Reference

This is the single best reference on the history and comparisons between different generations, models, calibers and variations of Glock pistols. The photographs of key parts are excellent as well. It is well written, clear and comprehensive. I thought I knew a lot about Glocks but that was before I read Robb's book. If you are going to buy only one book about Glocks, this is the one to buy.

Great piece of history in the palm of your hand

This is a fantastic 75th anniversary book to help celebrate DC Comics. The book contains 100 ready to frame posters, with additional covers of the series mentioned on the back of the posters. The ready to frame posters are perforated and tear right out of the book. They measure about 13 x 11. The covers look like scans of the vintage comics, and some show their age. I guess they decided to show comic covers with creases to depict the age of the comic. I enjoy that better than having them digitally airbrushed. It looks more like a piece of classic art. If you are hesitant in buying the book because you don't know what ready to frame covers there are inside, here is the list of the 100 covers in the order they show up in the book.

It's NOT a book of 100 of the most influential covers or anything, so just take it for what it is, a poster book, and you should be happy. I highly recommend this book.

A Great Collection -- the family loves it!

I'm now the coolest guy in my house.

I was most intrigued by this book's seeming inclusion of so many of the classic, even iconic DC covers over the last 75 years. It includes 100 covers (in a ready to frame size and perforated for removal it that is your goal), and they move along at approximately a cover per year (though not adhered to rigorously, and the extra covers make it possible to slow down during the epic times). Each cover has an explanation on the back that informs of the date, artist, and all of the significant surrounding facts about the cover, with two other smaller covers that provide context.

But the fun was only beginning when I opened it up at home. I was able to show my wife some of the more "fun" moments in DC history -- she love "groovy" Emma Peel Wonder Woman from 1968, and got a snicker out of little Speedy and his heroin needle when DC "attacks youth's greatest problem . . . DRUGS!"

But the kids like it a whole lot more than I was anticipating. They sat on the bed and lovingly turned the pages over and over, and have carried all around the house. The giant pages really pop and make them want to ask questions about Krypto or Jimmy Olsen. They tend to be much more fascinated by the older covers than the more recent ones.

Most of all, this book does a good job of combining the "essentials," the must have covers from DC history, but also the more odd ones that make for good conversation with comic book fans as well as "civilians."

Got this and used it as a wall border in my son's bedroom. ALL the posters look amazing and I like every single one of them! They would also look VERY nice framed! The book is HUGE!!! Highly recommended!!! A+

Flight of the Garuda is a series of twenty-three songs sung by the Dzogchen master Tshogdrug Rangdrol [1781–1850 C.E.] for the sake of his students. The songs explain the practice called Thorough Cut (Thregcho), which is one of the two innermost practices of Dzogchen or Great Completion. Tshogdrug Rangdrol, who is more commonly known as Zhabkar, later compiled the songs into a text. Over time, this text became one of the most popular texts used to explain Thorough Cut because of its complete and very clear treatment of the practice.

Zhabkar went further and made Flight of the Garuda into the first of a trilogy of texts. The other two texts in the trilogy explain the second innermost practice of Dzogchen, called Direct Crossing (Thogal). These two texts are not included in this book, though a clear explanation of all three texts in the trilogy is given in the introduction. Note that the second text of the trilogy is essentially the famous text by Jigmey Lingpa Guidebook called “Highest Wisdom” (Triyig Yeshe Lama) re-arranged by Zhabkar and put into verse. Jigmey Lingpa’s text is available in English through PKTC, which means that there is a way to obtain the content of the second text of the trilogy without it being translated into English. The third text of the trilogy contains personal instructions on Thogal which were meant for Zhabkar’s students and which might not be suitable for publication in English.

The translation here is a fresh translation of Flight of the Garuda which improves considerably on two earlier translations. The translation was made by Lama Tony Duff in Tibet, while receiving an extended teaching on the entire text by the great treasure revealer Ontrul Tenpa’i Wangchuk. The translation benefits from the exceptional knowledge and high realization of this master and the general atmosphere of pure blessings of the Nyingthig Dzogchen (Quintessential Great Completion) tradition in his retreat centre.

Dzogchen for Dummies

Flight of the Garuda is a step-by-step set of exercises that can lead one to a deeper understanding of Dzogchen. This book warrants many rereadings, and even more, it is a great, experiential manual. Basically, this was written by a Tibetan hermit named Shakbar. He condenses a broad and difficult set of Dzogchen writings into a series of easily understood songs and instructions for practice. However, this shouldn't be taken as a "Do-it-Yourself" Manual for those who believe they can learn Dzogchen from books.

I am aware of at least three English translations generally available: in addition to this one, there is also a translation by Keith Dowman and Erik Pema Kunsang. Personally, I don't care for Mr. Dowman's version--- I find that it is unnecessarily difficult and complex. In terms of poetry and readability, I prefer Erik Pema Kunsang's version, but that is a matter of personal preference. However, EPK's translation is hard to come by. Lama Tony Duff's version is also quite excellent. In terms of accuracy, this version seems to be the most precise. If one has the access, I would actually recommend both Mr. Kunsang's and Lama Duff's version.

This version also contains other helpful material, such as Lama Duff's glossary and a brief introduction.

Flight of the Garuda

Although, as the author says, it is a more direct and literal translation of the original poetry- and it indeed sheds light on the work that previous translations hadn't, I found personally that it lacked the flowing ease and simplistic beauty of the translation by Erik Pema Kunzang.
But perhaps only because that is the translation that I have grown to love so much.
Still, I enjoy having it available to read, even if the translator's opinions in the introduction seems to be a bit self inflated at times.
Gossip aside, if one is serious about realization, texts such as this are indispensable, and a great service to all beings who wish to lift themselves and others out of the sufferings of samsaric existence.
