Worth waiting for! A MUST-own!

I'm a former model who didn't have a clue about how I looked, until I read this book. Today, my copy may be falling apart from frequent use, but it's the single most-important book to read and understand when you're trying to look your best. Nobody else explains how important it is, to look like YOU. Forget trying to conceal your "faults," Kibbe shows you how they're really your assets! Yes, some of the advice is dated (1980s) but the essence of what Kibbe says is timeless. This book is a unique wake-up to what WORKS.

The Best One Out There

I wasted years trying on clothes thinking they looked bad on me because I was too fat. Turns out it was the clothing, not me. Side note: even if you are over or under weight, it will not change your best style of clothing. Whatever type you are, is what type you are, whether you are fat or thin, it will work.

The book will tell you which fabrics work best for your body type, which cuts, what kind of fit, what kind of prints, what kind of jewelry (and what size), there's even a little on make up and hair.

You will find out details like what kind of pant leg works for you - straight, tapered, cropped, etc., whether your type looks better in flared skirts, straight skirts, minis or whatever. Whether your body type is better suited to mix and match styles, coordinated sets, or something else. He's specific and you'll notice and learn things right away.

He demolishes damaging rules. There is nothing having to do with minimizing flaws. Nothing like 'wear this so your hips look smaller...' It's more of a you're all that, here's how to bring all that OUT, and suddenly, you look instantly gorgeous.

I bought a jacket in a style he suggested. I tried it on, and saw an instant transformation in the mirror, like I'd never seen before. I was hooked.

The cons are it's outdated. It was written in the eighties, and needs updating. The before and afters, although effective, are in 80s clothing. It doesn't change what styles look best on you, it just makes it hard to see contemporary examples.

Also, I had trouble figuring out which type I was. Others might not have that problem.

If he wrote another book, or updated this one, I would buy it in a second. I wish he would. I don't even know if he's still alive. I googled and everything, but found nothing.

The Fluid Colors of Milind Mulick

Milind Mulick's book is one that any lover of watercolor will enjoy picking up again and again. Its gallery section is generous, full of his fluid and transparent paintings, many of which are scenes of street life in India. Somehow this artist manages to get vibrant color and still retain that liquid transparency that is the hallmark of watercolor. The artist discusses his approach to watercolor which is sensitive and thoughtful. He helps us see colors in objects that we might not see by ourselves. His handling of light and shadow is extremely remarkable. He addresses color washes, perspective, sketching and maintaining a loose and fluid style. He then takes us stepwise through several paintings and how they were constructed. The reader will find a unique watercolor artist in Mulick, whether an artist in search of technique or a viewer who enjoys the wonderful world of watercolor.

Brilliant musician who knows his theory

Can't recall how I came across the author (only on-line), but he probably responded to some question I had years ago, and after reading his helpful answer, I hounded him with more "music theory" questions -- almost all of which are answered in his book, which I bought promptly. Gary has played professionally all his post-toddler life --with many famous artists, and has a deeper understanding of music theory, chord composition, song structure, how different instruments work together in a band... Great guy.

Good Investment Primer or Stand-Alone Guide

Written in plain language, Evans covers the basics of a broad array of investments and how those investments can be used to meet your financial goals. He explains the relationship of risk and returns (reward) and how to use diversification of your investment mix (portfolio) to manage that risk while improving total returns. There is also an emphasis on using investment vehicles that minimize costs. A plan is presented that is practical, straight forward, and low maintenance. Although it is not an "auto pilot" program, it goes far in taking emotion out of your investment decisions. This book will not make you an expert on all aspects of investing, nor even the specific investment vehicles suggested, but the reader will understand the basics and rationale of any investment being recommended for the reader's portfolio. What the author offers is to show regular people who have little to no investment experience how to make and manage their own investments outside of paid financial management. He delivers. You can use this book as the first step in your financial education, but I am comfortable saying that you could do well using this book as your only guide to building a solid investment portfolio.

As 1st time parents with a child attending a local community college, we thought that purchasing the book on-line would be cheaper than at the community college library. Some lessons learned: We didn't know this book needed to be purchased until my daughter attended her 1st English college class. It was discovered in her 1st English class that this book was needed. We went on-line and found the book. We purchased the book. It took just shy of "two" weeks for delivery. The book was finally delivered and it was discovered that this is "work book" and not the actual book we needed. We also learned that college teachers require the students to type in special "code" that is on the new books. If you purchase a "used" book, the student still needs to purchase "separately" the "code". Once the code is used, it cannot be used again. I would think twice before purchasing another book on-line. The monetary savings and aggravation might not be worth your while.

Great for Learning Italian

I've been learning Italian now as a hobby for the past couple of years. I have just started reading simple Italian short stories on my Kindle. This allows you to cursor to a word and bring up a definition or definitions of the word. It works very well. For a straightforward explanation of how to setup this dictionary as the default go to--> [...]

Here is what you'll find at the above link (in case it disappears):

One of the great features of Amazon Kindle is instant dictionary lookup. If while reading you encounter a word that you don't know (like agio), you can just select it with 5-way controller (or scroll-wheel on first generation Kindle) and short definition will popup at the top or bottom of the page. For a longer explanation you can press the "Enter" key. You can then press "Back" to return to the book you were reading.

By default Kindle comes with only Oxford dictionary of English but you can download more dictionaries and use them for look up too. These can be dictionaries with definitions or translation dictionaries. Only one dictionary can be active at any given time though. So you will need to change you dictionary following these simple steps:

1. From Kindle Home screen press "Menu" and select "Settings"
2. In the settings screen press "Menu" button again and select "Change Primary Dictionary"
3. In the screen that lists all available dictionaries select the one you wan to use with 5-way controller.

You can always go back to the original dictionary using the same steps. It is not deleted.

Works pretty well

I've been studying Italian for about a year, mostly with Rosetta Stone. I wanted to pick up some simple books to start reading. In fact, the reason I bought a Kindle was to read Italian books and have a dictionary at my fingertips to look up words instantly. On the whole, I am pretty happy with it.

As others have noted, it does recognize conjugated verbs - something other Kindle dictionaries apparently cannot do. There is no point buying a Kindle dictionary without this feature. There are a few things it cannot do, however. It cannot recognize parts of contractions, for example, "nell'ufficio". Nor will it recognize infinitives with attached articles such as "prenderla". These are just common enough to be mildly annoying, but they don't ruin the experience. Of course, once you identify the original words, you can always look them up manually, although this takes just a little longer. Compared to the context of what I am reading, a few of the definitions will seem a little odd. For example, they might carry a negative connotation where one doesn't make sense. But, on the whole, this has really helped me to read things that would have been slow or impossible without it.

Another review says that this does not work as a Kindle dictionary. That is incorrect. You do need to navigate a few menus to make this the default dictionary, and perhaps that reviewer didn't do this.

If you plan to look up lots of words, note that the Kindle 5-way navigation button is a little awkward. Specifically, the up-down-left-right arrow buttons are fairly small, and this makes navigating a page a little tricky. You get used to it, but I wish that they were easier. Obviously, this is a problem with the Kindle and not with the dictionary. Even so, I probably look up one word per sentence, so it's mostly a minor annoyance.

Very nice to have an Italian dictionary integrated into my Kindle, it is quite complete and seems to find words in all their conjugations. Keeps me from having to juggle a notebook logged into Google translate or an open dictionary.

his life story is amazing and most interesting

Very interesting rendition of the life of Joseph Smith. Before I continue, my review may be more helpful if you are aware that I am active LDS (Mormon). However, I view myself as a very independent thinker. First off, let me say that no matter your view of Joseph Smith, his life story is amazing and most interesting. And I think Fawn Brodie has done an excellent job of presentment overall. I would have given it five stars, except there were some instances where I felt she made assertions without adequate explanation and some other interesting facets that I wish she would have explored in more depth. But what is written gives a person a good basis of knowledge and makes it easy to do further study if you would be so inclined.
First off, when Fawn Brodie wrote this book, she was skewered by LDS scholars. However, at the time the LDS church would not acknowledge that Joseph Smith had more than one wife either; recently the church has acknowledged he had multiple wives. This book is not just about polygamy, it is a part of the story. But I mention this first, because it shows clearly what she wrote and the LDS church denied at the time, has now been acknowledged by the LDS church. And I suspect other of her assertions will also prove out. She included original sources in some cases that the LDS church will refute and claims she does not use sources that may be contrary to 'her view'. However, I can tell you from experience, that the LDS church really puts the 'white wash' on the history they present and deny many sources contrary to what they want to present. I personally feel Fawn Brodie was pretty fair and she did highlight when she felt a source could be suspect. She pointed out 'revelations' by Joseph Smith that did not hit the mark and were changed, removed, or not added to the Doctrine & Covenants. She used much of the LDS 'Church History' also. And it was interesting when she could show proof of statements that were either not complete in the Church History or changed - as she found the original statement. His teachings on religious ideas are amazing, but then we see how he would smear those who could not accept or disagree with him (William Law and his wife are a fine example of this - they were full of integrity). The so called 'Lies' printed in the Nauvoo Expositor, we now know were not falsehoods.
I could write much more, but the point I am trying to make in the review is that, (1) this book is very interesting and any way you cut it, Joseph Smith was an amazing man; (2) I feel it is always better to present as complete a history as possible of an individual (it lends to a truer picture), and this book certainly gives it a good go; and (3) In this book, it shows in many ways the contradictions within Joseph Smith and what appear to many 'excesses' on his part. One question, could one actually be a "Prophet of God" with the excesses he displayed in his life?

This book starts out by presenting the evidence for hydrophilic interactions in biochemical processes and then goes on to describe the applications of the hydrophilic interactions in these processes, specifically protein folding, protein association, self assembly and molecular recognition.

In Part I of this series, it was shown that the role of the so-called hydrophobic effect in biochemical processes was over-exaggerated. On the other hand, both experimental data and theoretical arguments support the conclusion that the hydrophilic, rather than hydrophobic interactions are the more important effects. In this volume, the author focuses on the applications of the hydrophilic interactions in processes such as solubility of proteins, protein folding, self assembly and molecular recognition. Hydrophilic interactions provide a powerful and coherent explanation of some biochemical processes, which until recently, were not understood.

There are no other books of this kind. There are two books which deal with the role of hydrophobic effects (by C Tanford and A Ben-Naim), but these are quite obsolete.

In this book author focused on very important “driving forces” – on the hydrophobic interaction, or on role of the solvent-induced interaction in conformation of macromolecule. This book is addressed to the physicists, who have an interest to the structural biology. It contains a lot of concepts of protein folding, but author with ease and grace shows how using simple models and having a strict statistical physical approach, it is possible to explain such a complicated process as protein folding. I, as a teacher of "Statistical Physics of Macromolecules", using the material in this book, significantly upgraded my lectures that benefited students. Moreover, using some of the concepts in this book I am developing the idea that hydrophilic, rather hydrophobic interactions are more important in biological processes such as protein folding

About the Author
Toshio Yamazaki is Professor of Business Administration at the Ritsumeikan University, where he has taught since 2001. He previously served as Associate Professor at Ritsumeikan University and Kochi University. He received his BA and MA in Commerce at Doshisha University, and Ph.D in Business Administration at Ritsumeikan University. His research specialties include business policy and business management in Germany after World War II.
