This is more of an overview of different technologies. If you would like to see what's out there, this may be the book for you. It's not, at all, a "how to" at all. Misleading title. Selling my copy.

Lee Lapin's book is an excellent resource for all aspects of the private investigative field. Truly "the bible" for the private investigator. He provides explanations on every aspect of the business. He provides valuable tips on Skip tracing, pre-text calls, phone tapping, surveillance, the list goes on and on. The book presents simple explanations, expert advice and easy-to-follow instructions. This manual also provides an abundance of informative internet website information. I also enjoyed his humor and style of writing.

Well-organized and informative general reference on textiles for home or commercial use. Also has a great references section. Pictures are helpful, but I'd also recommend having a "hands-on" source in order to get a better understanding of all of the terminology and descriptions.

Everything you need to know about furnishing textiles . . .

As a new student in interior design, I've found Mary Paul Yates's treatment of the material very helpful. She starts out with aesthetics, knowing that if she jumped right into yarns and fibers we might be turned off or intimidated. The coverage of color, light and lighting, texture, pattern and market appropriateness are all crucial considerations for the professional. A short chapter on sustainable design follows; an apt attention to the "green" concerns that are becoming more and more important to responsible occupants of planet Earth. We then learn about the fibers that make up the yarns that make up the fabrics, and their many characteristics which an educated designer must definitely know. Lest one would think she is fully informed, there are eight more important chapters, starting with fabric structure (wovens, knits, embroideries, bondeds, casements and laces, etc.)and ending with professional practices (fabric selection, costs and budgets, order-writing and "guidelines and pitfalls"). With abundant, colorful photographs, educational illustrations and an excellent glossary, this book is both informative and easy to read, and it's hard to imagine any client asking a question the thorough reader couldn't answer.

Very helpful book on fabrics

I ordered this book for a class and though I have not read through it enirely I plan to keep it for many years into the future. It is an extremely useful book for either fashion or interior design students needing to learn all there is to know about all kinds of fabrics. It might even be useful to avid sewers who desire to learn more about the differences between fabrics and their uses.

BEST BOOK FOR JIRA LOVER

I work in one of the biggest bank in India, my responsibility is to manage various marketing campaigns of the bank where we promote new schemes and offers. We also organize various events and workshops in companies. Since several people are working on these campaigns, it is very difficult to manage the work and track who is doing what activity. Usually these campaigns are supposed to be finished within 2 or 3 weeks and we try to store the result of the feedback to analyze it later, like how many new accounts were created, how many leads we got and it helps us in future campaigns.

We were using excel sheets and emails for managing the work and no prizes for guessing it was horrible to keep track. We started using online to-do tools, these seem to work for us as everything was managed online and people can track their work. We quickly realized the need to have custom solution where we could have our own process mapped in the tool and also we needed more fields to capture the information.

Since we are working in banking industry, it was also a not a good idea to use some hosted solution. We decided and got the approval to purchase some tool that can be hosted internally. We quickly came to know about JIRA being one of the best tool for issue tracking and the ability of customizations. We spend couple of months trying the make the tool work for use but we felt that the customizations done by us were difficult to maintain and we ended up with so many schemes.

I had good understanding of the tool before I read the book and that is the reason I purchased the Mastering series. The book focuses mostly on the customizations of the tool and also there is a chapter in which the author has described really well on how to maintain difference schemes. At one point the author has written about change control board and mentioned about the process that JIRA administrators should follow to accept changes in the schemes. I also like the fact that there are several other administrative topics that were discussed till the end. You feel empowered after reading this book, and you learn the capabilities of this tool. I spent most of my time on JIRA these days and I keep this book on my desk just as a quick reference.

I highly recommend this title to all JIRA administrators.

Where's the beef?

Okay this book is just 147 pages, I was okay with that, HOWEVER there are 28 BLANK pages and 15 pages with not even a half page or maybe just a paragraph or less. So it is really only 111 pages which is almost a pamphlet that is 50 pages 2 sides, you getting the picture. the recipes take up at least 25 pages of this and are somewhat bogus as you really can't give a recipes for Kentucky Fried Chicken LOL. Still somewhat interesting. GOOD INTRO writer can sure write, but would rather read something else by him, where he is actually writing a book.

Not a good read for Atheist.

Someone wrote that this is just another Christian Smear campaign. While some could counter argue that Pagan writing or teaching is as well a smear campaign. But for either..... neither is the case. But if you're a new ager, a wiccan or any other of the hundreds of mystic revelers take note this book is definitely on the money as far as the history of it goes. If you think having your bubble popped is offensive then don't read it. But if you are not fulfilled in your current mystic experience and wondering why it just doesn't sit well with you then I offer you the chance to know why you don't quite feel so right about what your doing. Read this book and open your eyes. Not yer Christ conscience or your inner child. Just your eyes. Soon you should understand the facts and tracing about what it is you got involved in is nothing new. It has its beginning long before you were born. Only the author's of paganism are still around today playing the same card game with the same loaded deck.

For the Christian this book is a must read as well. You'll find more aspects of pagan rituals and teachings have been a part of your life than you realize and it's time to grow a bit and give the lies the boot.

So that's where that came from?

This book is a "V-8" moment for some of us. We see things in society and we wonder how or why people get involved in such things. This historic book traces beliefs from some of their oldest sources and follows thems down to current times and even personalities. There is a saying," Nothing is new under the sun", and this book seems to prove that. There is a battle of good and evil waging since time began, and those that wish to fight on one side may not be able to stand this book because it exposes the truth from lie, fact from fiction, and if you will, right from wrong. But if you are curious to know where things came from, have an open mind, and are not afraid of a self check, this book will prove that everyone must choose a side.

There is no right or left view of this book. It is history and history speaks for itself. Anyone reading this book will immediately see the customs that have been passed down through the generations, where they originated, and what "power" is behind them. Our Western culture at this point in time does not understand the spiritual nature of these ancient beliefs like our ancestors did; and when coming to America, they brought these customs with them and practiced them and taught them to their offspring. Find out what it at the root, as all things have a spiritual nature/power operating behind them...either for good or evil. You don't have to be a right or left person to understand that. What you do with the knowledge you gain from this reading will however affect how you live and the choices you make from this point onward. I would highly recommend this book for the serious student on a quest to find truth. It is excellently done,researched well and will open your eyes, hopefully. It will also answer some questions you won't get in most churches (sad to say) because these truths are not being taught, either out of spiritual ignorance or because most people want a simple, sweet, easy to understand genie-like God who will not interfere with their daily lives and let them do their own thing and make God into their own image, who give money to support those who tell them what they want to hear, those who cannot be bothered with truth. This read will equip those who fear God and are searching for a better understanding of the spiritual battle that all of humanity is involved in whether it knows it or not. This will enable you to "fight the good fight of faith" and to recognize the background activity of anything that "would exalt itself against the knowledge of God" or solicits worship or compromise from you .

Berit Olam 2 Kings Robert L. Cohn

I bought this book on the basis if having read Jerome Walsh's 1996 Berit Olam volume on 2 Kings. A follower of Christ since 1980 & now in my late 50's, 'Kings has always been a little problematic to me - my exposure to it has been primarily from the pulpit around the life of Elijah & therefore a highly truncated understanding. Jezebel seems blamed a lot for many an unfortunate experience/circumstance in the life of Jesus' followers down the ages!
Furthermore post-modern imperatives of radical individualism, deification of children, radical [psuedo] inclucsivism find this book problematic at a surface (suspicious) reading. Therefore rather than succumb to a Marcionite temptations I decided 2 years ago to spend 15-20 minutes per day for the following 3 years reading the text and a commentary to acquire some sort of understanding of Kings to live by with confidence.
I found Cohn's (1999) book not near as profitable as Walsh's (1996) treatment of 1 Kings from the same series; even though they both approached the text from a narrative critical approach Walsh's examination seemed a lot more thoroughgoing and I appreciated his more numerous theological reflections.
I am reading Nelson's (1987) commentary for the 2nd time - Cohn's treatment seems to offer little that this does not. I have read Leithart's (2006) theological commentary and found it to be an excellent companion to Walsh & Nelson's works.
Lastly, some of the moral questions asked of post-modern readers of 'Kings are helpfully addressed by Copan's 2011 title 'Is God a Moral Monster' - an excellent read.
However some questions still remain; Cohn alludes to that ongoing dialogue both the original hearer/reader & ourselves have with the text & its principle character.

The lexicographical labours of Dr C.T. Onions began when he joined the staff of the "Oxford English Dictionary" in 1895. Now his life work is crowned with a new etymological dictionary, embodying recent research on the etymology of English and of the other languages concerned. Each word is accompanied by its pronunciation, its present-day meaning, the date of its first record in English and the chronology of the development of its senses and its earliest form in written English. This is the most complete and most reliable etymological dictionary of the English language ever published. There are some 24,000 main entries, and with the derivatives, the total number of words treated is more than 38,000.
